The Blank Protagonist’s wiki page has some more information on the game’s main narrative.

PERSONALITY: Horō knows two things: Her name and her objective (to defeat the Oni at any cost). These two basic facts shape the core of her personality: She is tenacious, and she is lost.

Because of her murky grasp on her own history, she has very little common sense. Poorly socialized and knowing little about the times and places she ends up in, she behaves oddly in normal situations, sees things very clinically, and is ignorant to a lot of customs, mores, or traditions others might take for granted. This lack of emotional intelligence is compounded: Her origins in another, technologically advanced world far different from any other, her constantly skipping forward in time, and the amnesia she’s recently developed all roll together to create one walking social disaster. She butchers idioms, calls people “dear friends” within five minutes of meeting them, and ends serious conversations by announcing how hungry she is. She has no problem talking to Tenko, the sprit foxes that hang around the village, and she has a habit of clinically analyzing everything she encounters. She is an eager, curious learner, turning to the expertise of her fellow Slayers in subjects like cooking, world history, and languages.

Of course, while her amnesia keeps her from remembering anything, more than a few of these behaviors can be traced back to those deeply-hidden memories. Her desire to become fast friends with everyone she meets stems from her relationship with Obito, the first Great Unifier (“Annointed Innovator”) and one of the first demon Slayers. She met Obito soon after arriving in his world; because she was a foreigner and he was sequestered away because people feared his powers, they were each an early kind face for one another. Obito became Horō’s first friend, and though she’s forgotten him, she hasn’t forgotten the importance of friendship. Because Chitose, the other original Slayer and Horō's "little sister," taught her how to talk to Tenko, she loves the small fox creatures and believes that all living animals deserve respect and identity, even going so far as to insist the protagonist name theirs something.

Some of her “weirdness,” however, is completely innate. Even when she does get her memories back at a later canon point, multiple characters refer to her as strange, and her out of tune responses and behaviors earn laughter and incredulity among her compatriots. Their bonds are already close to unbreakable despite this, and Horō, for her part, is unquestioningly loyal to them in return. She is determined to defeat the demons alongside them, no matter how long they must fight, but she envies their commitment, unable to quite understand her own. Eventually, she comes to the conclusion that everyone fights to protect something they “like” or “love,” and that she must be the same: She likes her friends, and the village, and food, and so will fight to protect them.

A pragmatic fighter, but a self-sacrificing one, Horō is capable of making very cruel decisions for the sake of saving the world. In some ways, she may have to be ready to make the ultimate sacrifices in pursuit of the only mission that matters. That’s why she was created, after all. It’s never made quite clear to what extent Horō is engineered, but she’s at least in part the Slayer she is today because of modifications to her body. Given her multiple references to “the reason [she] was created” and the fact that she once calls herself “a hollow doll,” she’s probably at least partially artificial. At the very least, Horō carries within her a dangerous mechanical trump card. The modification that allows her to consume and draw power from souls makes her, more than any other slayer, a demon who hunts demons (demons themselves grow more powerful by consuming souls; this is a ‘fight fire with fire’ power). While the scientists who gave Horō her objectives assumed she would be easily able to sacrifice human souls if it meant saving the world, history played out differently.

Horō’s love for humanity eclipsed her pragmatism. She chose not to take any souls and instead chased the Oni through 1000 years of Japanese history, becoming lost and forgotten every time she moved on. And that’s what’s most important about Horō’s determination and what sets her apart from the demons she slays. She will save the world, no matter the cost, but her empathy means that she’ll find a “cost” which sacrifices herself before it sacrifices others.

Now, even she’s forgotten her own history, and she remains remembered by no one (probably). Her memory is tickled, in fits and spurts, by familiar landmarks or interactions that remind her of her two closest friends, lost for a thousand years (hearing someone called "big sister," for example, makes her feel as though once, someone called her that, too). The more she fights with the Slayers, the more she desires to understand why she fights, and why so many of the places they go to seem familiar to her. She wants, with increasing desperation, to explain the mysteries of her own life.

ABILITIES: Horō is a Support-type fighter. She fights using an oversized Rifle, the Phantom Rifle. She also carries and knows how to use special grenades that can be combined with shot attacks for extra damage or debuffs. Since she was created and raised to do battle, Horō is an incredibly formidable fighter who nonetheless looks out for her allies on the battlefield.

The rifle has an eight-bullet chamber and fires three types of ammunition: the SNP, PRC, and SCT bullets listed at the bottom of the above cited page. For quick reference, I’ll quote the info here!
- SNP: Bullet with high range and traveling speed, it inflicts the most damage when used for targeting weak spots. Cripples weak spot greatly when used together with a grenade. Charges to three levels before firing.”
- PRC: “Pierces through multiple parts, inflicting medium damage. When used on a grenade, the ensuing explosion will only attack the weak spots of nearby foes”
- SCT: “Severely damages weak spots at close-range. When used in conjunction with a grenade, it results in a powerful explosion that does more damage against enemies within close proximity of the attack. Charges to three levels before firing.”
As a slayer, she can also use four spiritual Support skills, activated to praying to commune with her Mitama:
- Altruism, which buffs defense and attack for anyone near her.
- Diffusion, which shields others from damage and mitigates wounds from severe to minimal.
- Sacrifice, which prevents everyone around her from taking any damage; however, Horō is hurt constantly by having this skill active and takes continuous damage.
- Recovery, which is a very minor self-heal skill.
These Support powers come from her Mitama (the soul of a dead hero bound to hers that allows her to fight demons), which is actually the soul of her good friend Obito. Though Obito is currently sealed in darkness within her soul-eating mechanism, he’s still able to provide her with magical “boosts” – of which there’s normally a pool of 12 from which any 4 can be active. To keep things simple, I’m choosing a fixed set and making them relevant to how they might be used in game:
- Altruism + Amplify, which increases the range of her Altruism Skill.
- Recuperation 2, which increases her rate of healing from minor injuries.
- Heroes’ Rally, which will let her use her skills more often.
- The fourth and final skill, Heroes’ Guidance, is permanent. It increases the wearer’s chance to attract Mitama, the dead souls of lost heroes. It’s obviously fairly useless and therefore completely nerfed in this setting unless and ghosts want to be big heroes, IG.
Outside of battle, she is a very fast learner, though she doesn’t always utilize the knowledge the picks up correctly. For example, she uses the phrase “many happy returns!” as congratulations not after a birthday, but after the protagonist successfully returns from a life threatening mission.

She has the ability to jump forward – only forward – in time. Due to her amnesia, this ability is already sealed, and I’ll be keeping it that way for the foreseeable future as means of nerfing it.

She speaks fluent Tenko.

INVENTORY: + Her rifle, the Phantom Rifle
+ Her Mitama, the Great Unifier, which is like a solid...chunk of soul stuck in her body. it is technically sentient but she is unaware of its presence, and, even if made unaware, would be unable to communicate with it.
+ Ammunition of the three bullet types listed above
+ A small cache of the grenades listed above
+ A long shot, probably, but she is very attached to the protagonist's Tenko, which she has named Tenkichi. Tenko are innocent little fluffballs about the size of a Shetland Sheepdog; they are attracted to shiny things and sometimes bring home small objects. Horō spends a lot of time with Tenkichi in the protagonist's house, so maybe...Tenkichi...could come?
+ Tenko snacks, if so
+ A box of sweet buns made by the captain's daughter

MEMORY ALTERATION: Horō is already amnesiac, so I can’t think of many more ways her memory could be tampered with, poor lamb. Anyway, since she's started to get curious about what her past is, she's going to believe that her quest has carried her to this world instead! So she can get answers and so she can warn the people here about the Oni.
